One of Ann Rule's Best!
Ann Rule has done it again! This gut-wrenching, unforgettable book is one
of the best-written true-crime stories in print. "Small Sacrifices" helps
us
understand a little better the tragic depths of the disturbed and evil
psyche
and its impact upon trusting innocence. This is a poignant, unforgettable
must-read for any true-crime lover. Bring out the tissue box.

DIANE DOWNS WAS UNMISTAKEABLLY ILL, I MEAN FANCY
KILLING YOUR CHILDREN ALL BECAUSE OF ANOTHER
MAN, I WOULD PERSONALLY HAVE GIVEN UP ON THE MAN
FOR THE LOVE OF MY CHILDREN,I HOPE THE CHILDREN
ARE GETTING ON WITH THIER LIVES, AND HAVE LEARN'T
TO PUT THE PAST BEHIND, WHERE EVER YOU KIDS MAY
GOD BE WITH YOU.

A tragic story
Ann Rule examines the mind of Diane Downs, a woman who cold
bloodedly shot her three children, killing one and crippling the others.
This
woman is EVIL, but she gets what she deserves in the end.

This was the book that started it all for me!
I have read this book more than once, and I am still astonished by this
case! This was the first true-crime book that I ever read, and it started
an
interest in criminal psychology that is now becoming my career! I have
suggested this book to everyone that I know! After reading the story of
Diane Downs, you will never be the same. It is so hard to believe that
a
mother did what is every mother's nightmare to her own children! And to
Christy and Danny, wherever you are, may God bless you and keep you
safe.

Another great book by Ann Rule
No one tells a true crime story like Ann Rule. This book manages to tell
us of a horrible crime without unnecessary sensationalism. Ann Rule
brings us so close to Cristy and Danny that we are left wondering what
became of them and hoping they have done well.

I saw the movie and a few years later read the book. It's an excellent
book from cover to cover. I guess a part of me wants to believe that
Downs really was telling the truth, that a stranger shot her and her
children. However, common sense and the heart-wrenching testimony of
her daughter, Christie, lead me to believe she was guilty. I know that
Christie and Danny are adults now and have, hopefully, put this behind
them and have made a relationship with their father. I can't help but hope
that some day Rule will update the book as to what happened to Christie
and Danny.

Excellent and riveting, truly a sad story!
When I read this book, I didn't know much about sociopaths. But
following the actions of Diane Downs life, it is so obvious that something
was bound to happen! She was a pathetic loser in life, always searching
for somebody to love her, and to make quick money. Unfortunately, the
love her children gave was never noticed. What is so shocking is that she
had no idea the path she was leading. Everything just happened! Could
someone have intervened with psychiatric help, what about family
guidance, there was none, even from those loser boyfriends who used
her! She desperately needed help! Maybe nothing like this would have
happened had she got treatment!!! How distrubing to read that all the way
up to the trial, she still exhibited the actions of a pathetic sole, still
not
realizing that she IS AND WAS SICK; especially when "Hungry Life a
Wolf" was played in court and she kicks her foot to the tune while
mouthing the words!! Truly, a sick, deplorable person, who I believe to
this day, does not even realize that "something is wrong with her".
